Fire Island
Seven Seas is located on Fire Island. A 32 mile long barrier island off the southern shore of Long Island. The island consists of 17 communities, each very different. While most people think that Fire Island is “gay” this is not the case. There are two communities of the 17 (the Pines and Cherry Grove) where the gay community thrives and comprises the majority of the town. The rest of / vast majority of the island is comprised of the usual bunch of Long Islanders and city dwellers that flood out to its beautiful shores on the weekends. To learn more about the island and its beauty, history and attractions, read the section – About Fire Island.
No Cars
Yup, you heard right. There are no cars on Fire Island during the summer season. Even in the winter there are very few as the island has almost no roads and is mostly comprised of boardwalks, sidewalks and dirt roads. This means that you will have to take the ferry to get here. For more information on getting to and from the house see Getting There. The long skinny shape of the island lends itself perfectly to this car-free environment. The beach is on ly 100 feet away from our door and the bars, town and ferry dock are not much further in the opposite direction. You will never have to worry about getting lost. Getting a DUI or finding a sober ride home, and best of all, no traffic + no noise.
Seven Seas itself
is located in Kismet, the westerly-most community of on the island on the east side of Oak St, six houses in from the beach and three blocks from the bay where the bars, restaurants, grocery store, liquor store, candy shoppe, pizzeria, ferry dock, etc are. The house has lovely trees in the front yard giving privacy to the lower deck, fitness studio and media room, as well as being surrounded by a tall bamboo thicket to the south (toward the beach) allowing great views where you’d want them, but not by the neighbors into the lower bedrooms.
